Do you find that it is easier to walk by faith in every area except for your finances? Money can be the most difficult thing to surrender to God. We all have preconceived ideas of how God’s provision will be brought about for our lives. People who have grown up in government housing may unconsciously believe that their provision comes from the government. Working-class people generally believe that their provision comes from their paycheck. Business owners and investors often have the mind-set that their provision comes from their investments, their customers, or their savings. In reality, our provision comes from the Lord. Your current income source is just a means through which your provision is being funneled. But you should never view your source as your provider. God is your provider, and His provision for you will be manifested when you are in the right place, at the right time, with the right heart motive! Obeying the Lord is a secret key to financial freedom. God once told Elijah to leave the city and to hide east of the Jordan. God promised that supernatural provision would be there to sustain him. Immediately, Elijah obeyed and, sure enough, supernatural provision was there waiting for him. Elijah had his own personal delivery service in the Kerith Ravine. The ravens brought him bread and meat twice a day—every morning and every evening and the brook provided all the water Elijah needed! But then, Some time later the brook dried up because there had been norain in the land. Then the word of the Lord came to [Elijah]: “Go at once to Zarephath of Sidon and stay there. I havecommanded a widow in that place to supply you with food.” (1 Kings 17:7-9) Sometimes your “brook” dries up—your source of provision runs dry—but it doesn’t mean that you have done something “wrong.” If you have been walking in obedience to the Lord’s instructions, and your funds are cut off, it means that God is ushering you into a new, more fruitful season, just as He did when God wanted to use Elijah somewhere else. When the prophet’s assignment changed, his source of income shifted. Elijah knew that what God had done for him before, He would do again—and again and again! As we remember God’s faithfulness in our previous seasons, we can be confident that He will continue providing for us as long as we walk in obedience to His leading. So there wasfood every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did notrun dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah. (1 Kings 17:16)Our obedience must also extend to obeying His instructions in how we spend the resources He provides. Malachi very clearly tells us that God expects us to give back a portion of what He gives to us. “Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, ‘How do we rob you?’ In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse—the whole nation of you—because you are robbing me. (Malachi 3:8-9)According to the passage from Malachi, those who withhold theirtithes and offerings from God don’t just deprive Him of their financialstewardship; they rob Him outright! As far as our offerings go, God put no limits on how much we can give—He just gave us this principle: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. (2 Corinthians 9:6) Our tithe is ten percent, but our offerings can be as much as the entire ninety percent that’s left! The choice is up to us, but remember our harvest will be the size of our seed. True financial freedom is having peace that the Lord, and the Lord alone, is your Provider. True financial freedom is living life free from the spirit of poverty. True financial freedom is having the ability to obey the Holy Spirit with your giving. The truth is, your “God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19 NKJV). There are no limits as to what God can doin you, for you, and through you. So, set your mind on the Word andHis promises, for He is about to turn things all around for you!
