The Lighthouse Center – Temporary
evening shelter during the winter for the
homeless and their families. A day program for
homeless adults. The center offers shower
facilities, case management and life skills
training, plus an address and telephone
number for homeless individuals to receive

The Winter Shelter – The Winter Shelter
provides emergency services to more than 50
homeless adults each night between the hours
of 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Through outreach
efforts, word-of-mouth and local police
department referrals, individuals seeking
shelter are encouraged to report to a
designated central location and are then
transported to a site where cots, bedrolls, food
and coffee are available. On a rotating basis,
various churches in Virginia Beach host the
shelter and prepare meals. A partnership
between local churches and public agencies,
orchestrated by Volunteers of America Ches.,

Potters House – Potter’s House provides
services to the homeless, the working poor,
and those in crisis situations, who are
residents of Virginia Beach. Assistance
includes: financial, food, bike, personal
hygiene, and ID assistance Tuesday and
Thursdays 9:30 till noon. Located at 1709

Menchville House – Transitional shelter for
homeless and hurting women with children.
Assistance given to help the women become

H.O.P.E. Village -- Homeless Outreach for
Personal Empowerment, transitional housing
for women and children – Salvation Army
provides shelter to single women as well as
mothers with children, including males not
older than 17, for a stay up to 9 months. FMI:

All Nations Church – Breakfast, fresh
clothes, toiletries, showers, and medical
attention. Sunday morning pick up 8:00-8:15
am at the Farmer’s Market at 29th Street &
Jefferson Ave, NN and HRT bus station. Taken

PORT Emergency Homeless Winter
Shelter Program – Managed by LINK and
designed for interfaith congregations located
in any area of Newport News who come
together to open their parish or social halls
and provide food and shelter for individuals
or families who would normally spend their
